Kangaroo Kangaroo

Meet Sport, an eastern grey kangaroo born in Queensland, Australia.

Soon after his birth, Sport's mother was killed by hunters, and he was "adopted" by Les and Irma Melton. They bottle-fed the infant kangaroo, made him a surrogate pouch out of burlap and sheepskin, and took him for walks in a backpack. After a year, when Sport was old enough to live on his own, the Meltons returned him to the wild at a nature preserve.

Kangaroo introduces youngsters to the day-to-day life, habits, and plight of these appealing marsupials, both in captivity and in the wild. Researched and photographed on location in Australia, and filled with forty extraordinary full-color photographs, this fascinating photo essay will captivate animal lovers everywhere.
